Can female bettas live in community setups?

I have a 29 gallon tank with 10 neon tetras, 3 cories, 2 marble hatchetfish, and 2 kribensis. I would like to add a larger fish. I previously had gouramis but am looking for something different. I have had male bettas in community setups, but never a female. Would a female be okay in this setup? I had a male in this tank and the kribensis nipped at his fins. Would I have this problem with a female since they don't have as flowing fins? Thanks guys :) Just want to make sure before I get another fish!

Female should be fine. It really all depends on her personality though. Females seem to do a bit better in community tanks then males.

Yeah it would be a trial run. I would try it. If it doesn't work just make sure you have a back up tank for her.
