ahh FIN ROT need answer ASAP

I found out last night that Tuna has Fin Rot. I caught it early and today we bought some Melafix. I was looking for Bettafix but the petshop didn't have it so i bought this. It says it treats Fin Rot open sores and pop eye. I do not have a filter in my tank. Is this ok to use? i plan to change the water in the tank everyday. I have a 1/2 gallon tank about how much do you think i should use? Its says a teaspoon every ten gallons. I need answers quickly! I would like to start treament as soon as possible. Also, if this doesn't work I might get some aquarium salt at Walmart, but i wanted to try this first. Thanks a lot!!!

Bettas can have a very bad reaction to Melafix. I wouldn't use it.

I saw 2 different ones and this one says, it is proved to be safe for even the most delicate of fish. And what kind of reaction can my fish get??

I've heard Melafix is fatal to bettas...

Melafix is much more concentrated than Bettafix.

I am going to try it because i read reviews of ppl who used this on bettas and they recovered very nicely. I couldn't find Bettafix. Some one said their fish started recovering in 24 hours. This is all very confusing lol

Have you tried salt baths first? It's better to do that before actually using medications. Medications can stress the betta out.

No, but i plan too. Do you know if it is okay to use regular salt? I read that you can can. If not then do you buy the aquarium salt with all the aquatic fish on it?

Do NOT use regular salt. Ionized salt is fatal to bettas. You can use aquarium salt. I've also heard of people using Epsom salt. You can get aquarium salt at the lps or lfs. I use API's (it's a blue milk container looking thing). I'd try salt baths first...if they don't work then I'd try medications.

I actually noticed today that about.com tells you to use table salt... which I think someone needs to tell them to change lol.

Melafix will be fine, just use about 1/50th what the dose calls for. Bettafix is the same thing, just very diluted version.

Certainly do not use iodized salt, get aquarium salt or epsom salts.

I'll use the Epsom salt then. And when i have a chance get the aquarium salt. Thanks a lot!! :)
