Hmmm, I don't know what could have been the problem. I'm so sorry. RIP B.

I would check to make sure the filter is running correctly. It may just be because it's new.

the film

the only way i can describe it is gasoline. it kinda looks like gasoline. however not as extreme mainly just how it hovers on the water does it look like that. and its a cloudy white not rainbow. you have to get at just the right angle for it, to actually see it. ill try to get a picture of it tonight when i get off work.

I'd say change the water and clean the tank and filter with some nice hot water.

I had an odd white film like that on my tank when I first set it up. I actually tore it down, cleaned it and set it up three times before it went away. For me, I think the film was something coming from the new filter.

Sorry about your fish. I once had a problem like this, with many fish dying i mean. some petstores just can't be trusted, maybe you had two sick fish. but to be safe i would wash the tank a thousand times, sometimes you can get away with bleach, which is what i did. remember to rinse times 100, then sit it in the sun for 48 hrs, then rinse another 100 times. lol, im over exaderating, but rinse A LOT
