New home for Winston

Hello Everyone,
I am new the the forum and ra new fish mom. I rescued a male Betta fish from Walmart Wednesday evening (Winston was in a small plastic bowl with about 3 inches of water) and we purchased an inexpensive 1 gallon aquarium for him. His new home has an under gravel filter and an air pump, but it keeps making bubbles at the top. From what I understand, the bubbles are due to a water imbalance. I would like to know how I can fix this, as the bubbles keep coming through the top and I am afraid Winston cannnot breathe.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
THank you.

Hello and welcome to FishForum. The airstone and airpump will cause the bubbles at the top. To control the airflow, you can get something called a gang valve. The bubbles don't mean there's an imbalance in the water.

Welcome to the forum. with a 1 gallon make sure you keep up with the water changes as it will get very dirty quickly.
