My betta is a VT but now it looks like he has two tails

Pluto (my avatar) is a Walmart fish and I had him for about 2 months now. He is a VT but a week ago I noticed that he has two tails now and he didn't before. He doesn't have fin rot and he is extremely healthy. I clean his tank every week, feed him in the morning and at night, and I do talk to him (my husband thinks I'm crazy talking to a fish).
Any idea what is going on with him?

If he doesn't have two tail lobes then he is not a double tail. He could have ripped his fin on a plant, or he could have fin rot. Even if you change the water every week, he can still get fin rot.

Yep, it's a tear. He could have split his tail flaring or caught it on something or just bit his own tail.

Don't worry; it'll heal.

Oh that is good to know. At least it is not fin rot. I haven't seen him bite his own tail, but he could do it when I am not looking.
Thank you all for your replies and hopefully soon his tail will go back to normal
