Does my Betta, Aqua, look healthy?

Hi! I Posted this on another part of the forum but wasn't sure exactly where to post it.

He looks fine to me he looks young though and a bit underfed. What do you feed him, how much and how often?

I feed him Tetras BettaMin tropical Medley with enhances. They are flakes with dried brine shrimp. I feed him about twice a day, sometimes once, a pinch of flakes. Lately, I've noticed that he's not eating the flakes anymore but picks out the shrimp. I've tried pellets a d he won't eat them.

I think most users here will discourage the use of flakes because they tend to lead to bloat. There are a couple tricks with pellets you can try -- crushing them (sometimes they can be a little too large, especially Omegas) and soaking them in garlic juice.

What is this?? Pic posted

What is this thing hanging off him? I've seen it one time before a long while back but it was gone after a day or so.

That's his poop.

Not all flakes promote constipation, low quality flakes will. But if you use Omega One Flakes or New Life Spectrum flakes then those are totally fine and really won't give constipation issues.

I really suggest trying New Life Spectrum Betta or Small Fish Formula, it's a smaller pellet than Omega so he'll be able to eat them much easier and they also have Garlic in them as well as Spirulina. Both which Betta's absolutely love and will entice him to eat them.

Thank you for answering! I wasn't sure if that was poop or something else. I've only seen it hanging one time before. I tried soaking a small pellet in garlic juice and he swam after it but then turned around and swam away. I will go by pet smart this weekend and try to find one of the brands you mentioned. Thanks again for everyone's advice on my threads!!
