Betta in a vase is a new and growing trend that consists of a vase, betta, and plant (usually a peace lilly.) If you see these terrible contraptions please to do not buy them as they are both cruel to the betta and are only going to become a larger trend if people buy them. This page is used to voice your opinion on the trend and hopefully convince more people to boycott this item. Thank you.

Facts about Betta in a Vase:

Bettas are carnivorous and although the instructions say it can thrive on the roots well it can't! Maybe out of starvation it will nibble at them but it needs a nice meaty diet to thrive!

The vase is much too small to house a betta. Not to mention the roots take up their share of space as well.

The roots cannot keep the water clean. Here's proof: Get any old flower and put it in a vase for a few days... water look cloudy? Imagine a fish living in that along with it producing waste and such?

The tempurature will most likely be way off! A betta NEEDS a heater!!

Part of the problem is that people think its normal for these fish to be lethargic- which of course it's not. I regularly have this argument with my friend who thinks bettas are boring fish because they just lie there. But they don't just lie there- if they have room to move and a clean environment with enough oxygen. I don't know if people will ever stop thinking of these fish as throw away pets or purely ornamental fish.
