What would be the minimum and maximum of the betta fish.

Minimum is 2.5 gallons. There wouldn't really be a max in my opinion.

Yup, minimum of 2 gallons. There is NO max!! They love lots of space.

Also it's difficult to find an appropriate heater for anything smaller than 2.5 gallons. I have the 3 gallon Eclipse for my girl- it was $48 for the tank + gravel, live plant pods, decoration, filters, fish food etc- I's say it was $75 total. Theres pics in the pics section- Lulu in her 3 gallon

If you have a 2.5 gallon you can use a 25 watt heater. That's what I did in the 2.5 gal hospital tank while I was gone and it kept the tank temperature at 78-80. It's really cheaper to just get a 10 gallon tank over something smaller.

actually I found that if I have betta fish in tanks over 20 gallons they tend to hide alot

I have a 30 gallon tank, and I can always see my betta, he dosn't hide.

I find 5-10 gallons to be the perfect size for me. I have one in a 5.5, 2 in a divided 15 gal so 7.5 gallons each, and one in a 10. It depends on the personality as well...some are lazy and don't need as much space, while others zip around constantly and love a large tank.

Prices vary depending on what type of setup you want. A smaller tank is less money to decorate, but the fixtures cost pretty much the same as a larger tank. There's no shame in decorating as you go along either if you don't want to shell out all the money up front. I've done that before - buy gravel, a few silk plants and a pot and then improving later on to fill it up better and achieve the desired look. You never know when there may be a sale ;)
