water changes depends on the size of the tank, and whether or not its cycled/uncycled.

I just stick my (clean) finger in the water and my girls play/follow/nip at my fingers. ... and I talk to them too.

If treated right, bettas can live up to 5 years.

I'd do a full water change once a week. You could put a mirror up to the tank or take a red pen cap and drag along the outside. Those two work with Flair.

If there's plastic plants in there make sure they're not too pointy or could catch the fins- betta can sometimes tear themselves on rough plastic plants and decorations.
My Lulu has real plants and she'll sometimes tear off a piece and play that she's hunting it- or I sometimes put life ghost shrimp in there for her to hunt and eat.
