Exclamation quick question:whats cycling

i have been to lots of posts about cycling and i halve no clue what the heck cycling is. and its sorta embarasing to ask suck a question when i already have 3 betta fish and planning on getting another... so i was wondering if anyone could explain it to me

It has to do with the chemical reactions living things have in the water- the production of nitrogen and amonia and such

I still don't understand how you can cycle a tank without fish. I'm not getting it. What am I missing?? Sorry...

Never mind... I found the fishless cycle link... :)
