No heater?

I was at PETSMART today... I almost bought a 2.5 gallon tank and a new Betta - but I stopped myself because I can't put a heater in that size tank. I've been bummed all day about not buying it. You guys/gals here have taught me to do the right thing when it comes to Betta's, they have needs too. So I want to do the right thing.

I wonder if those of you who have the smaller tanks go without heaters. Is this really okay? I have central air in my house so its cool in the summer inside the house. I would just hate to freeze a little fish.

Am I overreacting about no heater in a small tank??? My 10 gallon tanks obviously have heaters.

I have a heater in my 2.5 gallon critter keeper and haven't had any problems with it. Its a Tetra whisper heater from Walmart.

I wouldn't hesitate to put a 25 watt RELIABLE heater in a 2.5 gallon tank. True, you can't heat anything much smaller, but I know of plenty of people who heat 2.5 gallon tanks. If I were to do it I would get the 25 watt Visi-Therm Stealth heater...they are super reliable and unbreakable. They are a little more pricey but well worth it ;)

Sorry to hiijack the thread, but does it work well? I saw those and the price is definitely right, but I'm a little hesitant to buy anything else but the Visi-Therm Stealth or Deluxe since I have about 3 useless heaters sitting around that I had to replace because they couldn't keep a constant temp .

Its non adjustable but seemed to keep the water around 76-77 degrees. I may order another visitherm this winter for one of my other fish.

I have Jasper in a 2.5G tank....I use a 2-5g Hydor Mini Heater and it keeps the temp about 78-81. I was afraid to heat my 2 gallon tank but I bought another hydor mini heater and it keeps it at a comfortable temp. Now I havent been using them but for a month possibly, but they have lifetime warranty! Just a suggestion, but everyone else seems to have good luck with the heaters they suggested.
