Unhappy my lucky died in the morning,after a year

i had my beta for a year or a little over, i did everything right for his care. im a smoker and i wonder could my smoking in the same room with him could have killed him, whats the life time for a beta

Betta's usually live 2-3 years, although some have been recorded to live upwards of 5.. if they're full grown when you get them at the petstore they may already be a year old when you buy them. I have no idea if smoking affects their water.. someone else will have to answer that.

I am so sorry you lost him. If he was in a small unfiltered bowl he might have died as a result of poor water quality. How often were you doing water changes, what kind of water conditioner were you using and how big was the container? I don't mean to sound insensitive, but asking these questions might help you better care for the next one if and when you decide to get another fish.

It depends on his living conditions. Did you have him in a filtered tank?

Bettas DO breathe air so I imagine it could be possible if you were constantly blowing smoke over the top of the bowl.

Sorry you lost your buddy.

No idea about the smoking but maybe you shouldn't smoke in the same room next time just in case.
