The smoke can settle sediment on top of the water. I would wet some towels and set the over the top of the tank to keep things out.

ok thanks! the fire is moving away from us! last night there was a realy cool oarnge glo coming over the hill! i realy wish i had a better camera! it would have been one of those $1000 picures!
