females have white spots under there belly males dont

some older females will exhibit male behaviours such as bubble nest building and aggression I have read. My large female even puffs out at me like a male would.

thats not 100% true as plakat males have very short finnage. And i read there that even some of them juvenile plakat males will make a "fake" ovipositor to make it look to older males that they are a female.......

not sure about that fact though...

Yes females do make bubble nests, but according to BettaSplendens.com, females CAN raise fry and not eat them. However, females blow bubbles that are smaller and weaker than males so the nest will fall apart much easier and females don't have the same skills as males do to take care of the young, therefore, it's not recommended you leave the female to rear the fry.

I have cardboard dividers between my tanks and if the one between Carmella and Tony slips and she can see him She will start a bubble next, it seems. She may even do it without seeing him, but she does make small one!
