I have the same problem, i thought it was just dust or something.... its only in my bowls, not my filtered tank.

Yeah I get it too, it's from the water just sitting and not having a filter.

now im paranoid its bad that they cant breathe thru it appropriately. if i change half the water every other day is that too stressful on them?

also what ive been doing is, i take a paper towel, plain not printed with ink, or a white napkin and lay it on top of the water and take it right out, to take the layer off.

It's just a protein film. You probably have stuff in your water that causes it. Mine used to do that for a while but now everything seems to have settled out and it doesn't happen except for once when I changed the gravel. As long as your water is fine then it's not a problem but removing it with a paper towel will keep your tank looking better and is probably a good idea.

The same thing is happening in one of my tanks and it drives me nuts. My other tanks have lots of bubbles on the top and I use a paper towel to get those.

I like the paper towel idea, I'll have to try that.
