Omg omg!

Hi Everyone!
This is kinda graphic ...
I have no idea what has caused this but here goes...last night I went in to feed my fish and noticed one of my female betta's had sadly died... She was ok in the afternoon when I was last looking at them but died suddenly... So I took her out and noticed that she had her insides eaten out......she was literally hollow...This couldn't possibly be due to the other females being starved as I feed them everyday and vary their diet a lot... anyway...being on the safe side I took out the other females and put them in isolated tanks to keep an eye on them in case it was something contagious... another female died this afternoon, and just now two more died within 20 minutes of each other......I have NO idea what has caused this, I haven't used any new chemicals in the water or such, no new food has been introduced... I have no idea whats done this! The 4 females were in a 20g tank ... It was cleaned weekly so I don't think it was the water ...

Any ideas?

what are your levels at? Do you have a test kit?

Where there any other fish in the tank with them?

I'm only assuming they bullied each other to death. Sororities can be difficult to keep.

The water from the 20g tank has been emptied out now (I did have a display ammonia alert in the tank which read as normal/safe last night) and they were in separate smaller tanks as I isolated them straight after I found the dead one. I had the 4 females together in the one 20g tank I had set up... they lived together fine for over 6 months now...I'm stumped...
Another one has died..this fish had a yellow liquid slowly oozing from her... it didn't look thick like pus but more like dark yellow water... I have no idea what has caused this........

It's not uncommon for betta fish to eat one another, regardless of whether they're hungry or not. If there's food, they'll eat it because in the wild they don't know when they'll be getting their next meal even though we know they'll be fed.

Hmmm well the one that got eaten might've been sick with something, and the other ones might have it now ): whatever it is... how long have you had this sorority?

Over six months...around 7 months give or take...

That's what I'm thinking.....she has been sick, died and they ate her and got whatever it was...

yeah they can go nuts when there's fresh or live meats in there- my Lulu viciously attacks live ghost shrimps and gobbles them up

This is why I wouldn't want my bettas to have tankmates. If my betta died, I wouldn't want my other fish to eat off of it and I wouldn't want my betta eating off of other dead fish. I'm sorry about what happened to your fish. I hope the rest will be ok.

it could have been some sort of vicious bacteria or infection but idk.
