pregnant female?

Petco may have sold me a king betta female instead of aa male King betta. Idk anything about anatomy so i really cant tell. I can see something small and white sticking out of the abdomen. Is it a parasite or what? I cant really get a god pic but will keep trying. Incase he is a she, what shoulf i do?

If the white dot is a little under the ventral fins, it's most likely an ovipositor, which would indicate that it's a female. Most petcos are pretty bad at labeling their betta right, anything with short fins is a plakat male to them (I guess cause they sell for more?)

A picture would help for a more definite answer~

Also, technically Betta can't become pregnant since they're not livebearers. Sometimes they become very full of eggs, which almost looks as if they're bloated. You don't have to do anything, it's natural and keeping female bettas is just as fun as keeping males : )

Pictures will help.

As Aryia said, bettas can not get pregnant... They lay eggs and fertilization happens externally. Also, males may have a white dot too, often called a false ovipositor which is harmless.

Interesting, I did not know that. Is there any definite way to determine sexes then o.o? I guess you'd have to make the fish flare to check for the beard that males have?

Females have beards as well, but they are not as big. In King and Plakat bettas, determining sex can be a bit tricky.
