COMING SOON: Betta sorority!!

I am most likely going to be allowed to turn my 17 u.s gallon community tank into a betta sorority! Just a few questions though before i get started next weekend:

1. How many females can i have in my 17 gl with 1 plecostomus,1 shrimp, and 1 juli catfish?

2. will the females get along with neons IF i had them in the same tank as neons?

3. Is there anything special i need for the females?

Thanks pplz! BETTAS ROCK!8)

I'm gonna start abother Sorority too here pretty soon. :):)
i would say start off with about 5 or 6 females, depending on how many neons you plan on getting (they should be fine with bettas.)

Just hiding places (as far as in tank goes) and have a back up tank and such incase something happens.
They will be picking at each other for the first day or two, or three. But thats fine, they are establishing a pecking order, just keep an eye on them :)

just so you know cory catfish are shoaling fish and need more than 1. Just like neon tetras. You wouldnt want to put one neon in the tank, same for cory catfish.

Probably 2 or 3 more would be better.

I would be careful with the neons..... Bettas can and will eat them. So, your call really. If it's a chance worth taking.

Watch that pleco! They get huge! They need extremely large tanks when they're all grown up. (Sorry if you've heard this before, just thought I'd say). And I would say... maybe 5-7 bettas. I've heard it's better to have an odd number, so watch that too.

Agree about the pleco & the cory. I'd get maybe 5 or 7 females for that tank, but maybe less if you're planning on keeping neons too. The minimum amount of females you should keep is 4.

I ve decided im gonna not keep the neons and as for the pleco my tank is not THAT huge and the guy at the fish store said that they "grow with the tank" so im not TOO worried about that but thanks for the info! :) And i MIGHT get rid of the catfish. So how many females would you say would be okay with 1 pleco, 1 smallish shrimp, and POSSIBLY 1 catfish?

I would say 6 females. I have 5 females in a 29 gallon with 10 neons and 3 cories. Everyone gets along. Few tail nips here and there though. I would personally get rid of the pleco and keep the neons. I have a pleco in our 50 gal and he doubles the tank waste :( Neons are much easier.
