Giants & Friends

I just set up my 55g tank again. Once it cycles I want to get a Giant Betta. Our Petco sells what they call King Bettas (not sure if that is the same thing or not) but they never have any that are healthy.

Where can I get a Giant?

What other fish would be good company for him?

Thanks!

What do you mean by a giant betta? Like a larger than normal betta? lol

Best place would be to look on aquabid though they are not very common and can get quite expensive.

In terms of stocking there are so many options available for a 55 gallon. Did you have any certain fish in mind?

There are a few on eBay. Including these. I have bought from this seller and was quite pleased with the Bettas.

I think the King bettas they sell are the same as giants, not sure though.
And I'm not sure if giant bettas are any more/less aggressive than other types, but I'd be nervous about adding fish that were much smaller than it. Aside from that, good matches are usually schooling, non-nippy fish, and peaceful bottom-feeders.

True Giants and Kings are different. Kings are often just very large betta with the possibility of percentage of giant genetics in them. Many people believe kings are half giants which may or may not be true. Giants are at a minimum 3 inches body, nose to start of tail. From my experience true giants grow to at least 4 inches body size. Giants are not at all more aggressive and ime are often much less aggressive. However you cant put a female giant in a regular sized betta sorority without freaking the regular girls. Panda corys are a terrific tank mate for all sized betta.
