Is my new betta sick?

Hello,

I have a new betta (had him for about a week) in a 3 gallon tank. He has plants in there to hide in, and he eats normally. He is very bright and his fins are not torn or injured. I am perhaps just being paranoid, but he swims around very fast near the front of the tank sometimes, and looks like he wants to fight the glass. When he does this I also notice his breathing is very fast. Is he sick? I'm worried he has internal parasites of some kind, but he shows no other signs of being sick...

I may just be a paranoid new fish owner.

He might just be reacting to his reflection.

That or he's a hyper fish. My fish do that too, especially Caesar =P

I agree, when males see their reflections they drop down a flap (I don't know what it's called) and they flare. If he's moving around very fast when he sees his reflection he's probably annoyed or confused that he can't get at it because they are fighting fish. If his colors still vibrant, his fins aren't torn up and you don't see anything growing on him (white spots etc), than he's fine.
