Names...

I am trying to choose names for my 2 new boys. I have the knight theme going and am contemplating what direction to take...

no pictures of them yet - mostly because they're still to shy to pose properly. :)

So - current names are:

King Arthur, Galahad, Gawain, Lancelot, Roland, King Richard the Lionheart.

- new boy - Veiltail - green blue mix with some red on his fins.
-new boy - Veiltail - luminous pink with red fins and red face mask.

I'm considering what knight names to choose...

possible - Tristan (from story Tristan and Iseulde)
possible - Caradoc
possible - Robin of Locksley (Robinhood story)

Lanval is my vote since we just finished Marie de France's lai in BritLit I. Lanval is the knight who's story mirrors the tale of Joseph & Potipher's wife in Genesis. Lanval meets a lovely (possible supernatural) who promises him everything his heart desires on one condition; never tell about their love-affair.
Queen Guinevere manoeuvrings Lanval away from the other knights at Pentecost feast and attempts to seduce him. He declines but in the process reveals his affair with his Amie. Doom.
Lanval is summoned before King Arthur and the knights for judgment and at the last minute, his Amie shows up to defend Lanval's honor & vindicates him. She then retires with him to Avalon . . .

Since this is one of the earliest Arthurian legends, it is my opinion Lanval is the genesis for the Lancelot character.

Lanval is beautiful - but, it would be strange to name a fish so closely in keeping to the Lancelot 'character' that one of my boys has already taken.

Tristan for the pink/red - is a yes. - I tried the name out on him last night and he seemed to have been waiting for me to call him it. He relaxed a bit more since giving him a name. He may even be ready for facing a camera soon - if he keeps improving as he is.

I'm just waiting to see him make me some bubbles.

Robin vs. Caradoc - I admit for all that I love the sound of Caradoc, it sounds like a fierce warrior name - maybe more for a solo betta - Robinhood with his merry men - well - he is in a tank with rainbows and neons - if he relaxes into the role of leader - then Robin of Locksley would be a really good fit.

Robin... Robin was doing a lot of swimming last night, and I was cursing the lighting on that 20 gallon tank. The bulb is too yellow, and muted - I had my camera set for the highest ISO, and with the lighting as it was, I was struggling to get any decent shots of him. The lighting doesn't do any of his colors justice. The greens disappear ... he comes out looking like a multicolored blue and red gentleman - rather than four colored as he is...

I may need to buy new lighting just so that I can get some better pictures of this beautiful boy.

Works for me. I'm considering a pair of Imbellis sometime in the future, or perhaps a small community tank, so I'll reserve Lanval unless someone else likes it. Two Freds in one day cracked me up!
