RIP Ruby

I woke up this morning and Ruby was dead in his tank He wasn't looking too good yesterday and I was going to change his water again today, but he passed before I could. I got him at Walmart a couple months ago, so at least he was out of that little cup for a couple months.

Fantasia has fin rot also and I'm pretty sure Petco has it but I don't know what it's called. I read a little bit on it and it says that you should isolate the fish that has fin rot because it can be contagious if the other fish is really stressed etc. I've been thinking about getting Fantasia his own tank b/c he's in with Flame and Fantasia's really big so I think I'm going to get another tank for him and treat him in that so Flame doesn't get it. This is turning out to be a great day...

I always heard you should isolate them while treatment is happening. But, I've never dealt with it before. I hope someone here can help you! Good luck!

Thanks. I was looking at Eclipse and he's getting fin rot too, so I'm thinking that I'm going to put them in a divided tank together and treat them both at the same time.

I'm so sorry about Ruby. You can treat finrot with Jungle Fungus Clear or Jungle Fungus Eliminator. Also, Maracyn1 and 2 together.

I bought Melafix at Petco today...I hope that's a good brand.

I would advise you to NOT use melafix. I have used it in the past (before finding articles advising against it's use in labrynth fish) and it not only didn't work, but actually seemed to harm my fish more causing lethargic and erratic behavior. Like DQ said, Jungle Fungus Clear is much safer, actually works, and is what I always recommend for fin rot because it has worked so many times for me. I wish you the best and I hope your luck changes soon.
