Fin Rot!?!?

I have a beta fish named Brutus that i got from petco about 4 weeks ago. He was in a 1/2 gallon tank since i live in a dorm and did not have too much room, but after reading several beta sites i realized it was too small for him. A week ago i bought a tank that is alittle over 2 gallons and he has been loving it ever since. About two days ago i noticed alittle red streak on one of his fins. I didnt think much of it til i checked this morning and their were more red streaks and his fins were starting to shred. After reading your info about it i immediatly cleaned out the entire tank. Also lately he has been acting strang and flicking about alot more and just has a stressed attitude. If it is fin rot than it is spreading pretty quickly. Im having my mom send me along with a mini heater she bought, some aquarium salts and some beta fin rot meds from petco. It should arrive in the mail in 3 or 4 days. I just want to know if im doing enough to help him and if for now if their's anything i can do. I think i waited too long to clean the tank so that is why he got it. Instead of waiting 7 days im changing it every 3 to 4 from now on.

aww man,i guess video of him didnt work, i was trying to show how he was acting in his strange agitated way of swimming. oh well sry about that.

He is very pretty. Is there not some way you could get at least the meds before then? I just think 3-4 days maybe to long to wait to treat it. Is he doing any better?

My Delta Devin has the same thing, but I actually think it's him nipping his tail, as it doesn't have the same look my betta, Vulcan, who DOES have fin rot. I just give Devin a couple of salt baths every other day, and it usually goes away, before he does it again. I'm not saying this is what it is, only that it looks exactly like what my betta does.

It looks like possibly finrot, my betta had fin rot where chunks of his fin were falling off...I changed the water and treated it with medication from the petstore. I heard bettas can bite their own fins too, does it appear he does this?

Thnks, for the support. Ive been treating him for three days with some aquarium salt and bettafix. So far the red streaks have disappeared and their is no more fin loss. I think actually some of it is regrowing. And he likes his mini heater, i just hope my ra doesnt find out about it, since we arent allowed aquarium electrical equipment in our dorms lol.

if im not mistaken your betta is also a butterfly because of the way his coloring is :)
