Hiding

I got my Betta 3 days ago. Day 1 he would swim amongst the plants in the tanks but now he just hides under the log in the aquarium and occasionally hides behind the heater and hides in the plants. Should I be worried or just give him time.

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum! :)

How big is the tank? It might be that he's afraid of larger spaces (it sounds a little silly, yes, but some Bettas hate big tanks). Is there a heater in the tank? What is the temperature of the water?

Just answer these questions and maybe we can help you. :)

Ooh, nice choice for a tank! :)

Yeah, it could be that he's just not used to all of the space. Have you tried putting him in a smaller container and gradually moving him to a bigger one? It doesn't have to be an actual tank; I think tupperware will do. Just be sure to rinse it well.

Maybe he just likes hiding? Does he have anything unusual about him? like spots or anything? Fin rot? bloated? will he eat? if not, maybe you jsut have a fraidy fish haha. My brand new boy wont even let me touch the glass without darting off in the other direction or hiding in his terra cotta pot haha

Welcome to the forum! Yeah I would give him some time to get used to being in such a small cup to a much bigger tank, in his eyes at least. If he still doesn't get better, then I would downgrade.

Well, I think I have a shy Betta. He comes out of hiding but when someone enters the room or approaches the tank he hides in the plants or under the log again :(
