Need advice about new tank!

So today I was in wal-mart and saw that they had a tank on sale for $15 CD, reg, $35 CD. I figured why not! So this is the tank I got; a 2.5G.

But when I brought it home I realized that though it's tall, it doesn't have much width....maybe 4 inches? No more than 5. Is that alright?

It also came with this under the gravel air pump bubble system. It say this is the filtration, but I thought an air pump and a filter were two different things!

And I'm not sure if the pump is so safe to use for a betta too since it might toss him around...

It also says to cycle the tank, but I really don't want to do that for such a small tank.....if I do end up using the pump though, do I HAVE to cycle it? and what kind of water change routine would I have to do if I use the pump?

I'm just thinking it would easier to not use the pump and just do regular water changes >>;


any thoughts?
I just want to know all these things first before I fill the tank up because I might just return it!

No, you don't need to cycle it. It's too small to cycle it anyway. Those undergravel filters don't filter anything. I had the same question a few days ago.

Looks fine to me. I would put a betta in it, then see how he/she does. You could probably sell it for about $15 bucks somewhere anyway, and get your money out of it. :)

Baw, I changed my mind.
I'm bringing it staright back to wallyworld! V<
I decided just to spend a couple extra bucks on another tank I know I like (the same kind Caesar has).

It's now housing my new betta!
