Bernice Just Will Not...

I just got a fish named Bernice and when I got home I tried to feed her. She will not eat. I got some new food and she still wont eat. Today when I got home there were a bunch of bubbles like a bubble nest in her bowl. I dont know whats wrong but do any of you know? Am I doing something wrong? Is she bored is that why she is blowing bubbles? Please answer!

Bettas blow bubblenests when they're ready to breed. While it's mostly males who do the nest making, females will too sometimes (mine does). It's perfectly normal, and doesn't mean anything is wrong. The food thing happens for two reasons, usually. One is the betta is merely settling in to their new homes, and need some time. Keep trying to feed them every day, and they'll eventually eat. If they don't eat the food within 4-5 minutes, take it out so it doesn't get the water nasty. Another reason is bettas are very picky eaters. If they don't want one brand, try another. Just remember to keep trying every day. Good luck!

Also, don't worry if they don't eat for a rather long period of time. Bettas can go up to four weeks without eating a thing.

ok so I should try other brands and shes ready to breed? Well I could but like I can get a male but how do I make sure she has eggs?

They love blood worms and if she goes too long without eating this can be used as a last ditch effort. But as CodeRed said she has the ability to survive for WEEKS before she gets to the point where this is necessary.

edit: Please don't! It doesn't mean she has to spawn. It takes A LOT of research before you should even consider breeding.

I would seriously say DO NOT BREED! Breeding bettas is a complex thing, and if done by someone who has not researched a TON, one or both bettas could end up dead. It takes time and effort that many people don't even consider, and then you have up to 50 baby bettas that you have nothing to do with.

We're talking MONTHS here. And judging by your question you have MUCH to learn. Females generally produce eggs naturally but the process can speed up when she is conditioned or is courted by a male betta.
