Best Fin Rot Treatment?

I am afraid my sister's fish has fin rot. Thank god Banana doesn't, and the black parts are actually -dark- purple. Her fish also has a split in his tail that just popped up a day or two ago.

So, I was wondering what wold be the best treatment for fin rot? I know salt baths, but anything else? I want to really get some good ideas when I go to the store tomorrow so I know what is the best. Please let me know!

Thanks!,

-SnS

Try some Jungle Fungus Clear or Jungle Fungus Eliminator.

Okay, but do you know if it is sold at most pet stores or wal-mart?

Thanks! I will see if my dad can take me up there. Our local Wal-Mart is stocked just as good, if not better than the pet store by us, so maybe it will be there?

Salt baths works best for him.
Maybe look up neenjar on this site to check out his thread on salt baths.

Those, with very clean tank water, and extra salt and bettafix added to it should do it. Keep it up for a week or so.

Whoops, I meant to say "salt baths work best for mine".
It all depends on the person and their betta to as what they like best afterall :3

If it's a split, he might have just ripped his tail on something (plastic plants are the main source of ripped tails) but if it's fraying at the end, chances are it's fin rot.

Do water changes and salt baths and if you don't see an improvement, then go onto treatment. I personally use maracyn + maracyn-two in combination for mild cases.

Use just salt baths and bettafix if it's just a ripped fin (helps heal damage faster and prevents bacteria from infecting the wound, although if you keep the water clean there should be no problem :). You may also use some betta fix even if it fin rot to help heal the fins faster :D

Thanks for all of the posts! They help a bunch!

His fin has a rip in it, maybe from his new fake plant, but the ends are also frayed. He is getting 2-3 salt baths a day, is this enough? Too much?

Instead of salt baths, I have resorted to adding aquarium salt directly into all the water I add to the tank. It seems to be working just as well if not better and Bernard is almost completely healed up in just three days!
