Question New male betta wont eat...

Since the loss of Sapphire, my blue female Veiltail, it felt a little weird not seeing a betta greeting me whenever I came into my bedroom. So I decided to get another one yesterday. He is a Halfmoon Double Tail Plakat with some unique colors on him that I've never seen before personally. Now I don't know if he is just trying to adjust to the new environment and is ignoring food or doesn't notice the food floating on top but he hasn't eaten since I got him yesterday. He only seemed to realize their was food when a pellet fell in front of him. I tried leaving about 3 pellets in the tank for a couple hours this morning but he didn't noticed them so I took them out. What should I do?

Congrats on the new boy. Do you get his attention before you drop the pellet? Tap the water or get his attention on you, drop one pellet, if he eats it drop another if he doesn't try again later or the next day. Some of them are slower to learn you're a food source. Does he react e when you go to his tank? Make frequent visits so he gets used to you. Some new Bettas take days to settle in.

He just keeps swimming around rapidly everywhere in the tank. He notices me, flares, then goes back to swimming around a lot. When I got him I thought he was really active! Literally doing rapid laps in the small cup he came in from Petco. Starting to think he's a little nuts. Not sure why he's going sort of crazy in the tank. I've tapped the top of the water, he doesn't take notice. He's just swimming around A LOT and rather fast.
