Beginner needs help with Fishes surroundings.

My *first* new fish, Pickle is currently living in a rather small tank, about a foot high and 1/2 a foot tall (Im planning to move him into the turtles tank as soon as it gets a new one)
I got him a few days ago, and his tank is bare.
Im wondering if I can put a few smooth stones in his tank in the meantime, but Ive heard these have to be boiled or something?
I am also wondering if I can put him into an, eh, plastic container, about a foot wide and 1/2 tall. It was actually a lettuce container once, but Its all cleaned out.
He seems really bored, and I want to help him Asap.
Im giving him attention and all, and Im using a heat lamp for warmth.
Could I have a little help,
and am I on the wrong forum to be asking this question?

DO you know anything about putting a few rocks from the garden into the tank, or should I boil them first?

Okay,
just wanted to say,
the reason why Pickle has earned his name is because he is living in a large pickle-jar.

I scrubbed it out good, and took off the label so no-one freaks out,
and he seems pretty okay with it, other than the fact he's dead-bored.
I try to interact with him al the time, not like sticking my finger in the water or tapping the glass,
but he's just so BORED.
Im going to either put him in the lettuce container or buy the turtle a new tank and dump him in the empty one.
Ill put a few pictures up after I find my camera.
There's nothing in there, its driving me nuts.
Im going to put pickle in the lettuce box in a couple days or so.
There's an old plastic log somewhere I can put in there for him.

Really, don't be too hard on yourself. While not ideal, he's not in a tiny bowl anymore. As long as you have plans to upgrade him eventually, it should be fine. And as long as you keep up on water changes.

Im changing his water every two days or so.
I was actually worried about people not being too happy xD

If you were someone who just threw a betta in there to look pretty and didn't listen to our advice, then maybe a few of us would get mad (I would).

But like CodeRed said, it's good that you care about your betta.

Anyway, any rocks you bring in from outside will need to be washed/boiled thoroughly, as you thought. Just remember not to use soap or cleaning products.
