5-10 gallon tank question+

Hi everybody! I was just wondering if a hamster/frog/general aquarium tanks would be suitable to keep a betta fish in. My boyfriend has two aquarium tanks (one five gallon and one ten gallon) that he used to keep a hamster and a frog in and I was wondering if they would be okay to house a betta fish. I don't know even if I sanitize the tanks if they would be safe for a betta. If so, how would I properly sanitize them? And what other supplies would I need? A heater? Filter? And also, how would I change the water in these tanks? Thank you!

Just make SURE they hold water first!!! :)

How do I sanitize them? Put Vinegar or bleach in the tank with water, and let it sit in the sun for a while. Then.... Rinse rinse rinse rinse rinse rinse rinse until all the bleach is gone!
What other supplies do I need? You need a heater. (5 watts per gallon) Visi therm and Elite are my favorite brands. A filter is optional. A filter will help the water quality very much. I highly recommend it!

In my 10g tanks, I change 30% of the water once a week. In my 5g, I was doing a 100% change once a week, but now I'm doing two 25% changes twice a week.

I would add that you should leave it out in the sun for at least two days after rinsing to ensure that all of the chlorine is evaporated.
