Update: I did go today and buy Zeus a silk plant. I must say that he loves it. Its sitting right behind his sign.

I meant to ask, being in a dorm and all; is a one gallon tank okay for one betta? I know he'd probably like more room but he swims around a lot and seems happy. Plus I don't really have much room for a bigger tank.

I have my females in one gallon tanks. I think they are ok as long as you do weekly water changes.

yeah they like bigger tanks- and you can probably find one that will fit your space if you want to- but 1 gallon will do so long as you keep it clean
if the fish bumps into the sides a lot i would get a bigger tank

If you have a petsmart near you the have a small 2.5 gallon tank for about 14.00. It does not take up alot of room and it has a lid. I have one for Hershey and he is doing great in it. I have a small heater I got at Walmart for I think around 15.00 and a small filter that was around 10.00 also from Walmart. He loves his hidding place I have in there for him.
