Strange Behavior

a few days ago my first betta died I had him for almost 2 years. So I went out and bought a new one. Tex is a Wal*Mart betta that looked like he needed a good home, not to mention he was adorable...but that is besides the point. Tex is always flaring...Always. I don't know if it is because he is upset or if he sees a reflection or why he is doing this. I am afraid he is going to hurt himself because he swims violently around his tank running into stuff...any suggestions on what may be causing this? Is it a reflection fish? and if so how can I prevent him from harming himself?
Thanks a bunch!

Is the water too hot?
And what size tank do you have him in?
He could just be seeing his reflection. Maybe try turning all the lights off for a little while and letting him calm down a bit.

He is in a 2 gallon tank and the water is around 73 degrees Fahrenheit. I didn't even think about turning off the light in his tank! As soon as I did he calmed down and went into his little hideout. Thanks so much!

Do you have a background on the tank? That can cause them to see their reflection more than usual. You need to give him a day/night cycle...so he does need some light. You might need to slowly acclimate him to the light being on so he doesn't get so stressed.

No, I do not have a background on his tank.

My CT does the same thing, hes just not very violent about it, he just loves flairing at his reflection. its cool getting to see him sprawl out.
