New pair, color and pattern questions

Hi Guys,

I think I am going to have a successful Spawn! Please let me know what you think of this pair. She is steel and red and he is royal blue and red. Both have "trim". I do not know if that qualifies as a butterfly trait or a variegated fin type, but hers is white, while his is black, What colors or can I expect to see in the fry?

Sapphire the Dad, Royal Blue and Red Half-moon with black edges?

Sapphire blue/black? This fish looks black in certain lights, especially his head

Sapphire Relaxing

Aurora the mom, A steel and cherry red Half moon with white edges.

Aurora Grown Up and fat with eggs

Aurora Stripes

Ready for a Mate

Curves

You should mainly end up with irid (turquoise and steel blue, maybe few royal blue) with red fins and red wash. You can also expect few with more dominant red (like the female).

Thank you! Red wash is not desirable, I think. I know I am going to hate culling.

I am all for culling when it comes to deformed or weak/stunted fish. If you don't cull the weak they just end up dead in your tank. But culling for color I would not do that. If the fish is healthy and looks good don't cull it just because of the color. someone will still like it.

But that's just me I don't breed for color only I breed my fish for health first and good form second.

Good luck on you spawn you should start a log.

Good Point. This will be my first spawn and I have yet to see a Betta I do not find beautiful in some way, including my son's Cambodian red veil tale with a huge curve in her spine. She has an amazing personality. She was this tiny, tiny fish at Petsmart, she was spunky, so my son wanted her. She is full of attitude.

h, I definitely will start a log. They were still courting last night. I gave him two possible nest anchors, wax paper and a styrofoam cup. He built nests under both, but seems to have abandoned the wax paper one in favor of the styrofoam. She is hiding really well (smart little thing) and still shows breeding stripes. I see some signs of fin nipping, but neither is in bad shape, so I am leaving them alone.
