New user and a few questions

Hi,

I'm new here and just got my first Betta fish. I used to have a few fish as a child and this fish seems a little easier to handle then my old ones. I do have a couple of questions though:

1. How do you get them into the net? When transferring from the tupperware he came in I sadly resorted to pouring him into the bowl. The net was almost as wide as the tub. Any tips on herding?

2. Are they nocturnal? The second the lights were out he started moving if they were on he just sat there.

3. Any other general tips?

I'd just keep the cup if I were you, and scoop him up in that. They come in handy when you're doing WC and the link.

He's probably just stressed and prefers it dark for the time being? But they're not nocturnal.

If you don't have a heater for him, get one ASAP. And he'll be much happier if he has a plant and some place to hide. :)

Problem is that the mini tank I have is smaller (not in area but in actual width) then the tupperware. I think i might need a smaller net too.

Nets not only stress the fish out, but it can cause damage to their fragile fins. I have done more damage to Flair by using the net before...it never turns out good. I agree 110% that using the cup is easier. Less stress on the fish and you. What size is your tank? Bettas should be in a tank that is 2-2.5 gallons minimum. The larger the tank the better. And like said above, you really need to keep the water at a constant 76 to 82 F... if you know that won't happen you need a heater. If you own a small tank, you might want to think about upgrading so you can get a heater.
