Feeding a King Betta...patterns?

Hey all-

I just got a King Betta (probably a marketing gimmick?), and I have a few questions relative to that. I had 2 prior bettas, both from a petsmart where the fish are either lethargic or near-death. It's quite a sad sight to see. Long story short, both of petsmart bettas lasted ~2 weeks; one had velvet, the other had ick. The last one lasted 15 days, so I wasn't able to get that rebate due to his death, thus I went to petco and fell in love with a King I call Orbit (he just laps and laps like a satellite!).

But, because of his size, I was wondering...

- Should I do the whole "pinch of blood worms for 2 mins" and see what he eats, or do 4-5? I don't plan on using the BWs as a staple diet, but rather maybe 3 days a week.

- For pellets, should I stick to 2-3 per day (one feeding a day), or 3-4?

- Has anyone encountered any different behaviors relative to Kings that are not common in smaller bettas? Like movements, attitude, etc? I see that there's a decent amount of info, but most of the discussion is along the lines of PK versus splendens.

Thanks,

Dylan

Hello and welcome to FishForum. I wouldn't feed him any more than 2-3 bloodworms once a week. I would also feed him 3 pellets twice a day.

That's a whole lot of pellets! I'm scared to death of overfeeding him, particularly since when I fed him this morning he looked like a great white amongst a pack of seals

I also have the freeze-dried BWs, not the live or frozen. I have flakes, pellets, and those, but like my other betta Galileo (RIP), he wanted no part of the flakes.

Makes sense, thank you very much; I'll start that regimen tomorrow.

Do many folks here have king bettas? It'd be great for them to chime in as well!
