Male is self conscious?

So I put my female in with my male and he does flaring up an doing his thing but on the other side of the bowl. Or he gets real close to her, but as soon as she turns around to look at him he runs away. She is a bit bigger then him so is he self conscious or afraid to commit.

Are you trying to breed? I would not recommend breeding in a bowl. You need a 10 gallon or larger. I also recommend doing a lot of research before breeding.

Maybe they need more conditioning. He doesn't seem ready yet. Did you give him a chance to see the female before you released her? They do better if they're acquainted first.

Well her tank was next to his so she could see him, and they both seem real interested in each other. And I did the whole cup thing before actually releasing her.

You should put her in a vase, with the same water level, as your tank. Give the male the whole tank, so he can inspect her, and impress her! Put a half of a styraphom cup in the corner or side of the tank just at the water lvl, for his bubble nest. Make sure you have a plant or two, and a cave maybe incase when you do introduce the female, she can hide if scared. Id wait till the bubble nest was nice and large and the female was nice and plump with eggs to introduce her, maybe a week? or two? (correct me if im wrong breeders). Also i have read a few places that you should seperate the pair for a day or two before the introduction. A "Distance makes the heart grow founder" type deal. Also breeders correct me again! After that you should leave them for a day or so to do the dirty dance! and if to much violence commences it would be wise to take one out so they dont end up killing one another.

Theres my pretty boy Apollo, to bad I don't have a nicer camera.

And here is the female, she's alot cooler looking then the picture shows, she had red and blue in her, and she's also spotted on some of her fins. She doesn't have a name yet, couldn't come up with anything good : (
