First Betta!

I had an ADF named Froggert for almost 2 months and a friend of mine from upstairs fell in love with him, recently she decided to change universities and so I gave him to her as a gift and told her everything she needed to know about taking good care of him. Today I just couldn't help but feel that the spot that his tank once occupied felt rather odd being so blank, so guess what I went out and got? My first Betta. I'm currently housing Hector in a 2 gallon tank because of a space limitation I cant really have anything larger in my dorm room. He seems perfectly happy, his water is staying right at 80 degrees and the water is treated, but hes flaring at pretty much anything he can find to flare at! which includes the thermometer and the fake plant in his tank. Is this normal behavior when adjusting to his new home? Or does he just like to show off?l

Congrats on your first betta, and welcome to Fishforum!

It's pretty normal behavior. Some bettas are more aggressive than others, but he will eventually settle in ;)

That's so exciting! It can take them a little while to get used to their surroundings and seeing their own reflection.

Yep, mine used to flare at everything and anything. He's mellowed in his adulthood. Congrats and enjoy!!

He seems to be much calmer today, although he did flare at the Bloodworms before he figured out he could eat them lol I have some pics today too! Excuse the quality I took them on my phone.

Edit: Sorry for the size, I didn't know how to resize it.
