First Betta!

Well, I ended up going out and getting my first fish over the weekend. He is a very handsome blue and black bicolor betta who I have named Oranos.

He was kept in such a terrible condition in the pet store, but he seemed to be the most active of the bettas they have and I love his dark colors. He has actually become noticeably more colorful since I put him in his new 1.5 gallon tank from Walmart with a filter and a heater. I would have liked a bigger tank, but then I couldn't have afforded a heater or decorations. As for decorations, I got him a fake plant and a little cave decoration for him to hide in.

So far he's been a bit erratic in behavior, I'm not sure if he sees his reflection or not, but he sometimes randomly darts around and flares up but then calms down a little bit later. Maybe he's just getting adjusted to his new home.

I will hopefully have pictures of Oranos to post tomorrow!

Congratulation on your first betta. Give him some time to calm down and adjust to his new home. He'll be your best buddy in no time.

Can't wait for pictures. He sounds gorgeous.

Congrats on your first betta! I recently acquired mine, as well.
I hope you realize you just entered an addiction. :P
I've owned fish before, but a Betta just seems to have a ton of personality in their little bodies! It's wonderful!
Not to mention...they're just plain beautiful. :)

Welcome to the forum. It's a mountain of great information!

As promised, I have pictures!

I think he's quite photogenic!

Sorry about the quality, I had to take this with my cell phone as it is my only camera. I should be able to borrow a camera to get better pictures soon!

He looks great! As everyone else said, give him a few days, pretty soon he'll clam down and you can really see the individual personalities Betta's have. They're like the cats of the freshwater world!
