Heaters...

As you may know, have a my 5 gal set up for my new HM Dmtri.

The only problem is, none of the heaters I'm buying seem to be working!

Well, the first one was a Hydor mini, which I didn't know only raised the room temp. a few degrees. It went up to 73 degrees and that's it.

I went and exchanged that for a 50 watt tetra heater that was pre-set to 78 degrees. Again, it wouldn't go highrer than 73 degrees.

Yesterday I went and exchanged it for a Hydor Theo, 25 watts. It's an adjustable heater that I put on 79 degrees. I think I plugged it in around 9:00 last night. This morning, nada. The water is 72 degrees.

I don't know, is there something wrong with what I'm doing? I can't imagine what it is. I guess I'll have to go return this one too.

I don't know, but I HATED my hydor theo heater. Don't get another one. They are bad heaters.

I'd get a visitherm if you can. I've never had a problem with them.

I just got a 25W Elite Mini Submersible, and it raised my 5 gal up to 80 F in about 4 hours on the highest setting.

I'll have to go back on Wednesday and see if they have visitherm...I think they must be getting tired of me at this point, lol.

It's weird though. My sorority is at 78 degrees right now, and my 5 gallon is 73 degrees according to the thermometer.

But when I dip my finger in to compare, the temerature feels almost exactly the same. If anything, the 5 gallon is a little bit warmer.

I took Claude's LCD thermometer and checked them both. It says 78 degrees for the sorority and somwhere around 71-75 degrees for the 5 gal. So why do they feel the same?

I would recommend the stealth visitherm also.

Oh wow, I just had a stupid moment. Duh, Maral. I had forgotten that heat rises, so of course the top is going to feel warmer when i stick a finger in. When I stuck my whole hand in, the bottom was quite cold still.

And here I was hoping it was actually working and I didn'\t have to go back. How much are those visitherms? This heater was around $26, I think, and after exchanging it I can only afford a $10 difference.

They are probably around the same price.$20-25, I think. I paid $18 for mine plus $10 shipping.

Thanks Dramaqueen. One more thing...if they don't have visitherm, do you have any other heater reccomendations? I don't really want to go back and forth again...it's too far from where I live.

I have an Elite heater in my sorority. It's okay. I have it at its highest point, and it only goes to about 76/77 degrees. It is very stable, though.

All I'm familiar with are the Stealth, Hydor and Whisper heaters.
