Some not to pleasent news....

Well, after poofing for a little while, I'm back, but with bad news :/ Over the weekend I went away to a local anime convention, left Saturday morning and returned Sunday evening. I instructed my parents to go nowhere near my fish, which they didn't, so they were all fasted until Monday morning. Well, the two 2.5 gallons that sit on my desk with Vlad and Gabriel were cleaned Friday before I left, then yesterday because I was tired on Monday. I went about my normal 100% PWC cleaning routine, rinsing everything and filling back up with dechlorinated water. Then last night I fed some Brine shrimp.....and this morning I woke up to a not right Vlad :/ He was very pale and breathing heavily, slightly bloated. I'd never dealt with SBD personally....so I thought maybe I'd fed him one yo many thawed frozen brine shrimps and that was it, so I skipped his breakfast and watched him, planning to feed him some Daphnia tonight or tomorrow morning. He really wasn't all THAT bloated...just a little bit, so I didn't think it was that bad. He could get up to the top for air and would still swim about some, so I thought he'd pull through.......apparently not. I found him at the bottom of his tank, dead, not five minutes ago. I have absolutely NO clue what happened...he was perfect last night. And that just makes it all the worse Gabriel is perfectly fine....I don't know It was just so random.....could it have been something he had even before I got him? Will SBD kill that fast? Could the brine shrimp have caused this...? Everyone got brine shrimp last night, and no one else is acting unusual....any ideas? I feel so horrible....I've had three bettas randomly keel over on me in the past few weeks.....

RIP, Vladimir.

By the way, thats a picture of him form a while back, but he was definitely no more bloated then that when he died...if that can help anyone help me figure this out...

I'm so sorry about Vlad! He was such a beautiful fish! You haven't had him that long so I'm guessing he had something internal. It certainly wasn't anything you did or didn't do! I would keep an eye on the others, though, in case it was a bad batch of shrimp.

Thanks guys :/ Thats what my mom suggested too, that it must have been something internal....it was just such a shock. My beautiful, young, feisty Vlad who was constantly watching me and swimming around just suddenly up and died. Yeah, I've been watching everyone else closely today....and absolutely no one is exhibiting anything out of the ordinary :/ I'm hoping its not the shrimp....I've had it for a little while, but I don't think frozen shrimp can go bad in a few months O.o;
