do i need anything else besides water conditioner in the tank?
im assuming i should put a heater so the water temp stays between 75-82?

i just looked at him now and he was swimming but under his gills are still all white, and hes breathing slowly. =( i wish there was something i could do

Nope.

And don't worry so much if his gills are moving slowly (unless it's super slow). Fast breathing or heaving is what you need to worry about.

Keeping the temp at a steady 78-80 degrees is key. Also, you can add some aquarium salt, making sure it's measured out for what you need it for.

also, when u do water changes, youll need to add the aquarium salt back in, ONLY for the amount of water u take out. salt doesnt evaporate.

thank you very much everyone... if anyone has any other ideas to fix up my tank let me know... i will be getting a 5 gallon and dividing it, and i will continue to use water conditioner and start using aquarium salt... also i am going to put a heater so the water will stay at a steady temperature.

unfortunately my betta passed away today =( i dont know what was wrong, thank you for the help though, i appreciate it... luckily my others are healthy and i am going to make sure i focus on their necessities more.
