Sorority Updates and Questions...

Ok, so its been over a week or so since I changed the girls to the 10gal tank...they are still nipping each other! There are 8 girls, and the only two who dont have horrible looking fins are the two smaller CTs, it seems they swim too fast. Should I split them up now?

Also, I just won those two gorgeous girls on aquabid and I am NOT putting them with the mean girls! lol I still have that 5gal they used to be in. Would that be fine for two fish? And possibly four? I would like to pull out my other two CTs before they get ruined too! I figure, that way too, the 10gal would only have 6 girls and maybe that could help with the tension in the tank?

Here's the current 10gal (ignore the surface grime, I've been away a few days and its getting cleaned this afternoon once I know what to do with the girls)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Hmm... well. Eight girls is really really over stocked. With a sorority, do worry about too many plants!!! Seriously. Go to walmart and buy like... 3 packs of fake plants. Also, get some clay pots. They make great hiding spots and are only 80 cents.

5g is too small for a sorority. However, it can be divided.

Exactly as Doggyhog said. You can only keep 4-7 (7 would be pushing it) girls in a 10 gal. You need LOTS of plants. I have one plant for each girl, though I'd still like to get some more.

Dramaqueen has made a good sticky about sororities, you should check it out.

Ya, i agree with everyone above. You have way to much open space. Get a few terra cotta pots, they are cheap and easy! Also i would suggest a filter.... and cycling before introducing the fish. Haste Makes WASTE! :D

Here is a pic of my sorority as of a few weeks ago, now i have a few shrimp, and oto (one died last night, found the shrimp chowing on him) a molly, and 6 girl. I have 4 live plants, 2 fake, (several betta bulbs still growing too) 3 cave/hiding hole, and a moss ball (which they all love lay on and kinda under lol). There is less free space so they dont see each other nearly as much if they look from one side of the tank to the other.

Hope this helps, and gives you more ideas :D

Sorry had to add this when i saw it:

:D

lol she's cute Alex! Can you see the betta bulbs in the picture? I did get a pack of those last sunday and so far I can see one popping up in the back. And I ordered those moss balls the other week off ebay, I'm still waiting on those to show... I'll try and find some other things, but I wanted to wait on those balls and see how big, and how they looked first. OK, so 5gal is too small for the four, but would just the two aquabid girls do fine in it? I don't want to put them with the other girls, but I dont really want to buy another 10gal at the moment....until I buy a stand I've got nowhere to put it...

Two females in a 5 gal is fine, as long as you split it.
