We may have a problem here....

Alright, so, after much consideration and encouragement form my family, I've decided to condition and try to breed Wally and Midori....but theres one slight problem. Today while feeding Midori some Bloodworms in the little breeder box, I noticed something....Midori was FLARING at the other girls Now, I'm pretty sure females CAN flare...I've witnessed Mira flare a bit at a new arrival, but this looked WAY more like a full out male flare O.o; I'm totally stumped....Midori has an egg spot, displays breeding and Stress stripes......though, as I witnessed with Vlad, young males can have stress and breeding stripes as well.....

I've never had problems with her with the other girls, she was about mid-lowerish ranking in the 'pack'...never witnessed her going at anyone other then the initial nipping when I first added her....now that I think back I remember seeing her flare at first too....

I've now removed her and put her into Vlads old tank(cleaned, of course). Another thing that worries me....I can totally get her to flare at a mirror O_O;....ugh, I'm so confused >.<; I suppose I just need reassurance......someone to tell me I'm nuts. I'll add some pictures I got...




Its not a HUGE deal if she is a he....I'll just have to change her name and keep her in Vlads old tank, but I would like to know before I put her in with Wally.... Anyway, thoughts? Opinions....?

I think she looks pretty female, especially if she is a Vt.

When I first got Aigis, she would do full-out flares at the other girls and act rather aggresively towards them. I'm pretty sure Midori is a female (and a cute one at that).

Females will flare but I haven't seen mine do it.

Ahh, thanks! It good to know I am crazy and I'm not the only one whos seen a full out flaring female! xDDD

Though, for the most part, Midori isn't that aggressive...its only when she was in the breeder box that she went into random insane flaring mode O.o; Maybe shes just weird....

I have two females, that when I first added them to the tank all they did was flare and pick fights....some are just that way I guess...

When bettas flare, their fins usually "flare" out, like this ::



They do it when they see other bettas, such as themselves, males, or females. Both male and females do it, but it's more often males.
