Water color

Hi all, quick question. So I added a piece of wood to my tank to lower the ph, and it of course discolored my water quite a bit. I'm wondering if there is a way to clear the water up without lowering the acidity of the water, as even with the wood the water is a bit more basic than I would like.

Thanks!!!

Well you probably should have let it sit in some treated water before you put it in, that would have helped. But since you didn't, do water changes until the color is gone.

Fresh carbon in your filter will help clear the water. Wood is sometimes soaked for a number of days, weeks depending on the size of the piece to let the tannins that discolor the water leach out. Others boil the piece of wood for an hour or two ,maybe more depending again,on the size of the piece of wood. If your ph is not below 6.0 or above 7.8 most fish will do fine.

the tannins COULD leech out for even months, me personally id take it out and boil it until the water is clear and do a water change in the tank.

i boiled all of my driftwood and have never had tannins leech out and discolor the water

But won't soaking/boiling the wood also remove the natural acidity? My tap water has a ph of around 7.8, so I'm a bit worried about that.
