Here are a few pictures of him. Some are when he first came home, and some are just now. (after pictures I turned all the lights off again, he's laying on his cloth leaf.)

Well, he is a handsome lil fishy! I like your tank, too. Lots of hidey places.

See how he does for a day or two, and do please let us know how he goes?

And remember, everyone's a beginner at some point. Couple of years later, and I still am a beginner I think, lol. And I still make dumb mistakes. :( You'll be fine. Caring about your fish is the best way to start. :)

Thank you Aus. I checked on him this morning (10 am) and he ate a little pellet but then spit it out? He isn't eating. Do I need to give him a day or two with no food?

Just give him one pellet to test, in the morning and evening.. If he eats the one, then give him his meal of a couple more.

I like your tank :) Most would agree a clean warm home with a nice enviornment is way more important than size! I keep my 2 smaller ones in 1 gallons, they are happy and healthy. Usually your betta will let you know if he needs larger. Maybe he'll "pace" all the time (think a tiger in a cage), maybe he'll start tail biting, maybe he'll just look depressed. They let you know.

Thanks Betta nut, I gave him a blood worm just to see if he didn't like the pellets or still needed to adjust to his home. He nibbled a little bit but I took it out after he was done flaunting the worm around his tank? Lol! I'll give him a day or two to relax a bit more, will test again tomorrow morning with another pellet.
