fin rot

So my betta fish, Chuck, ripped his fins and I noticed that instead of healing more of his back fin was disappearing. I got him bettafix which says it helps heal fins, I also got aquarium salt. Will this be enough to help him heal?

He lives in a 2.5gallon tank, I plan on getting him a five gallon tank eventually. He doesn't have a filter, they seem to be too strong for him. He does have a heater and I change the water completely at least once a week.

What do you mean by ripping his fins? Is there any way you can post a picture?

There was a big tear on his back fin, that healed for the most part but I noticed parts of his back fin started looking more ragged, I think I didn't clean out his tank water enough I will get a picture.

the first picture is the before picture when his fins were perfect and the last two are his fins now. So his fins used to be more rounded and now they look like they are being bitten off almost except he's the only fish. He's perfectly healthy other wise like eating and being active.

Your fish has fin rot! :( What you can do is give him 1 teaspoon - 1.5 teaspoons of aquarium salt per gallon. Aquarium sail is commonly found in pet stores. Change his water every day and put new aquarium salt in the tank. Do this for 7-10 days the fin rot should get better. If it doesn't I recommend buying some fin rot medication. You have to buy it online. Amazon has it I'm pretty sure. I know how you feel. My sweet Indy had fin rot too! :( I recommend doing research on the subject as well. You know, Google searches and all that! Hope this helps! Good luck!

It doesn't look like fin rot to me, but I could be wrong. The pictures aren't that good quality for me to tell. May be tail biting. If you notice chunks of tail missing at a time, then it's tail biting. If it's more gradual, like not chunks at a time, could be fin rot. Make sure not to do more than 7 days of salt treatment.

I have never seen him tail bite though and he's not that aggressive. I did notice him flaring more, I think it's cause i kept his tank light on when my room was dark so he saw his reflection more. I fixed that, he is flaring less, so hopefully this will stop if its fin biting.

Sorry for the blurry pictures he would move by the time my phone focused
