Cleaning Out Dead Fish's Tank?

Hi everyone!Recently my male betta died and I would like to move another fish into his old tank in order to downsize since this tank is smaller.I was wondering how I would need to clean the tank and gravel out in order to insure that the other fish doesn't die of the same cause. The tank is a2.5 gallon.
