Exclamation Chemicals in tank. help!

My dad didn't tell me he used the toothbrush he KNOWS is for animal tanks only for cleaning his tools. I was filling up Scuito's tank and I smelled it and it smelled like chemicals! GRRR.
I rinsed it out really really really really well. Put in Aquarium Salt and Water Conditioner (problem: i had to water down the conditioner until I could get more).
Him and Axel are looking okay (I cleaned Axel's tank first and didn't notice a smell). I'm just paranoid.

Any advice?

If you cleaned everything really really well I would just keep an eye on them. Personally I would have gotten rid of everything and started over just to be sure. You could also move them into a different container overnight and test the water to make sure everything is okay.

I don't have two extra tanks or a testing kit. And Scuito is already recovering from being sick. Scuito is just hanging out at the top of the water like always and Axel is swimming around. I'll keep an eye on them.

At least bring a sample to your pet store in the morning and have it tested.

Our Petco doesn't do that. I'll change the water again tomorrow this time WITHOUT the scrubbing. and go pick up a new toothbrush....*not happy face*

Well while you are going out in the morning to get the toothbrush, stop by the petstore and get a water testing kit (API Master Test kit is the best). You don't have a Petsmart or some local fish store that can test water? To be honest, I have never heard of a place that sells fish not testing water. Good luck though!

I've never heard of our Petco doing that. I can check though. They are both doing fine, swimming around.

Every petco will do a free water test. If you look around the fish section you'll see little signs saying that they'll do a free water test. Even if you don't, just ask! The worst they can say is no.
