5 Gallon Tank

Hey everyone, I'm new! I just have some questions about tankmates for my betta. I currently have an albino cory catfish in there with drae, but I've read that they are shoaling fish and so I should probably have more. Can I put anymore cories in there or is that going to overload the tank? The lady at the petstore didn't mention that they live in schools when she suggested the cory. I feel bad cause I think that he's probably lonely and ultimately it will be detrimental to his health.

I'm hoping to get a 10 gallon tank for Christmas but of course there is no guarantee. What should I do? Thanks for your help!

No other fish can live with a betta in five gallons. Something like a African Dart Frog can, or ghost shrimp can, but since cories live in schools, which would overload the tank, they shouldn't be kept in there. In order to have any other type of FISH in with him, he would need a 10 gallon.

You mean an african dwarf frog? Not an african dart frog right? LOL

Yep, what Codered said. If you get a 10g for christmas, I highly suggest getting 3-4 more cories. If you don't get a 10g, I suggest you rehome the Cory to somewhere where he can have lots of cory buddies.

Ok, I'm getting a 10 gallon on Friday so that way I can start cycling it as soon as possible. Found an awesome deal on craigslist, it comes with a heater, filter, substrate and some ornaments for $15 :D. I tried the ghost shrimp route in the beginning but they didn't last too long...Drae found them pretty tasty though haha. Thanks for the info!

If you get the 10 gallon, a few cories and a betta would be perfect. Your betta will love it!
