Hydor Mini heater

http://www.petco.com/product/102429/...t=OnSiteSearch
I have this heater in my 1.5 gallon tank!
I got an outside thermometer, but it is messed up,anyway I noticed that sometime my water seems cold, and soemtimes it seems warm so I don't know if my heater is working or no
The guy at petco told me I don't need a heater, and betta fish are always lathergic, but I told him no there not,and I was still getting this heater.
Is there something the wrong with my heate or is it suppose to turn off,and on?

Mini heaters for smaller tanks do a lot of harm on your fish. The heater makes the temp go extremely high and could cook your betta and it makes the temp go up and down.

Those heaters will only keep the water temp. one or two degrees above room temperature.

I actually had 25w heaters in my 1.5 gal tanks. I upgraded to 2.5 gals. and use the same 25w heaters.

They key is to get a heater that you can set and adjust the temperature to what you need. I set my 25w on 80 in the 1.5 gals. and that's just where the temp stayed no matter what the room temp was.
